Road Warriors at K&B Transportation get to enjoy premium pay with extended time off. Driving on this program is not for everyone, but the drivers who can handle two months on the road get to reap the benefits.
What does a week look like in the life of a Road Warrior? Below, we will dive into what our Road Warrior program entails, what makes Road Warriors successful, and who is cut out to earn some of the industry’s top pay.
What is K&B Transportation’s Road Warrior Program?
K&B Transportation introduced the Road Warrior program as an opportunity to hire drivers who live outside of the company’s Midwest running lanes. Instead of not being able to hire drivers in states like North Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and Oregon, K&B rolled out the Road Warrior program which allows drivers to stay out on the road for a longer period of time leading to stacked hometime. Since we do not run in those states, when drivers take their time off, they receive a free flight wherever they want to go.
How it Works
Drivers are required to stay on the road for a minimum of eight weeks at a time. But when it’s time to take their hometime, drivers get to enjoy 10-20 days off at home or wherever they want to go. We have flown drivers to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Las Vegas, and more.
On top of longer hometime, drivers receive industry-leading pay and benefits. Since Road Warriors are on the road for extended periods of time, we pay them 75 CPM with 2,300 miles per week guaranteed! Health, life, dental, and vision insurance is offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as regular bonuses and incentive pay.
Who the Program is Designed For
The Road Warrior program is built for drivers who enjoy staying on the road for longer periods of time while making as much money as they can. If you have obligations and need to be home more often, then depending on your location, there are other options to choose from. It’s not for everyone. But drivers who are true Road Warriors receive high pay, stacked home time, and a free flight to wherever they want to go.
75 CPM Pay Breakdown
The Road Warrior program is built on a foundation of transparent and competitive pay. At 75 cents per mile, drivers are positioned at the top of the industry pay scale. This rate ensures that every mile driven translates into significant earnings, providing a clear path to a high annual income.
Weekly Mileage Guarantee
Consistency is the most important part of a driver’s paycheck. K&B Transportation provides a weekly mileage guarantee that protects your income even when the road presents unexpected delays. If the miles are not available through no fault of your own, you still receive a baseline payment. This safety net allows Road Warriors to focus on the drive without worrying about fluctuations in freight volume.
Bonuses & More
Beyond the base mileage pay, the Road Warrior program includes various financial incentives designed to reward dedication and safety. Drivers can earn additional income through bonuses and clean inspection rewards on top of the 75 CPM base pay. These extras are combined with a comprehensive benefits package to ensure that your hard work results in both immediate cash flow and long term security.
What Does a Week Inside the Life of a Road Warrior Look Like?
Life in this program is fast paced and requires a high level of professional commitment. It is designed for those who prefer being behind the wheel and moving high priority freight across the country. Every week brings a different route, but the adventure of staying on the road remains the same.
Starting the Week
The beginning of the week usually involves checking in with dispatch to confirm the first load and coordinates. Road Warriors often start with a clear objective and a long haul ahead of them. This initial phase is about getting into the rhythm of the road and ensuring that the equipment is in top condition for the journey.
Life on the Road
A typical day involves making stops at refrigerated shippers and navigating through various weather conditions and terrains. Since K&B specializes in refrigerated freight, monitoring temperature controlled loads is a primary responsibility. You will find yourself stopping at well known hubs for fuel and rest, often crossing multiple state lines before the sun goes down. We have received many good reviews from drivers on this program.
Home Time Logistics/Expectations
Being a Road Warrior means spending extended periods away from home to maximize earning potential. Hometime is scheduled in a way that respects your need to recharge while keeping the fleet moving efficiently. Drivers typically work for several weeks at a time and then enjoy a concentrated block of days off to spend with their families. K&B Transportation covers all transportation costs to ensure you get home on time and back to work when your time off is over. Drivers on the Road Warrior program often receive more home time overall throughout the year compared to other fleets with a bundled time off package.
What Makes a Road Warrior Successful?
Not everyone is cut out for the intensity of this program. The most successful drivers are those who view their career as a professional craft rather than just a job. Success is defined by how well you handle the variables of the open road.
Pros & Challenges of the Road Warrior Program
Choosing the Road Warrior path is a significant career decision that comes with a specific set of trade-offs. While the financial incentives are among the best in the industry, the lifestyle demands extended time away from home. Understanding both sides of the coin is essential for any driver considering this transition.
Benefit: High Mileage + Top Pay
The primary draw of this program is the ability to maximize your earnings through a combination of high volume and a premium pay rate. Because Road Warriors are focused on long-haul freight, you rarely have to worry about sitting idle or waiting for a load. This steady stream of miles, paired with the 75 CPM rate, ensures that your weekly settlement reflects the hard work you put in on the interstate.
Challenge: Extended Time on the Road
The most significant hurdle for many is the amount of time spent away from home. Being a Road Warrior means missing out on some daily routines and local events because you are committed to the lane. This lifestyle requires a strong support system at home and a personal temperament that thrives in the solitude of the cab. It can be difficult to adjust to the rhythm of being out for weeks at a time if you are used to a more traditional schedule.
How to Adapt
Adapting to this lifestyle is about creating a home away from home within your truck. Successful drivers use technology to stay connected with their families through video calls and regular messaging. Viewing the road as a professional environment rather than just a place of work helps in making the mental shift required for long term success.
Is the Road Warrior Program Right for You?
Determining if you are a good fit for this program requires an honest look at your personal goals and your current life situation. If you are in a phase of your life where your primary focus is aggressive debt reduction, saving for a large purchase, or building a substantial nest egg, the Road Warrior program is an ideal tool. It is designed for the focused professional who finds satisfaction in the independence of the open road and the pride of moving essential goods across the country. If you value a high paycheck earning 75 CPM and a consistent work volume over being home every weekend, this program offers a rewarding and lucrative career path. Reviews from drivers on this program speak for themselves.
